The Most Common Question I Get
As a full-stack developer who has worked with over 40+ startups, the most common question I hear is: "What tech stack should I use for my startup?"
The honest answer? It depends. But let me give you a framework that works.
The 3 Questions You Must Answer First
Before picking any technology, answer these three questions:
- What is your timeline? Need an MVP in 4 weeks or 4 months?
- What is your budget? Bootstrapped or funded?
- Who will maintain this? You, a team, or hired developers?
My Recommended Stacks for 2026
For Quick MVP (4-8 weeks)
- Frontend: React + Tailwind CSS
- Backend: Node.js + Express
- Database: MongoDB or PostgreSQL
- Hosting: Vercel + MongoDB Atlas
For Enterprise/Complex Apps (3-6 months)
- Frontend: Next.js or React
- Backend: Node.js + Express or Python/Django
- Database: PostgreSQL
- Hosting: AWS or Azure
For Mobile-First Products
- Cross-platform: React Native or Flutter
- Native iOS: Swift
- Native Android: Kotlin
- Backend: Firebase or Node.js
What I've Learned Working with 40+ Startups
Here's the truth: Your first tech stack doesn't matter as much as you think. What matters is:
- ✅ Being able to ship fast
- ✅ Having access to developers who know your stack
- ✅ Being able to pivot when needed
My advice: Start with what you know or what's easiest to hire for. You can always rebuild later when you have traction.
